Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 29, 2026

Ersha ("we", "us") makes the Ersha mobile app for smallholder farmers. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who we share it with, and how you can delete it.

Information we collect

Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. If you sign in with a passwordless email link instead, we only receive your email address. You may also add your organization name and phone number in your profile.

Farm and field data. The names, GPS coordinates, and drawn boundaries of the farms and fields you add.

Soil sensor readings. If you use the 8-in-1 wired soil sensor, readings (temperature, moisture, electrical conductivity, salinity, pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), the sensor's serial number, and the GPS location of each reading.

Crop diagnosis photos. Photos you take or upload to diagnose a crop disease, and the resulting diagnosis.

Approximate location for weather.Your farm's coordinates (rounded to roughly 11 meters) are used to fetch a weather forecast. This is sent to our weather data provider, Open-Meteo, without any account information attached.

Crash and diagnostic data. If the app crashes, we automatically receive a crash report (device model, OS version, and the crash trace) through Firebase Crashlytics.

Guest mode. You can use most of Ersha without an account. In guest mode, your data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. Signing in later can copy that local data into your new account.

How we use your information

  • To provide the app's core features: farm and field management, soil sensor readings, weather forecasts, crop disease diagnosis, and the agronomic reference library.
  • To diagnose crop disease, your photo is analyzed by Google's Gemini AI model. We do not use the photo for anything else at that point.
  • To improve future diagnoses:when a photo is matched to a known plant disease, we may keep a copy of that photo to improve Ersha's diagnosis model over time. This copy is not stored with your name, email, or any other account information, and it is not affected by deleting your account (see Delete account & data).
  • To detect, fix, and prevent crashes and bugs.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.

  • Firebase / Google Cloud (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Crashlytics) — our infrastructure provider, hosting all app data.
  • Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in with your Google account.
  • Google Gemini API — analyzes crop photos you submit for diagnosis.
  • Open-Meteo— provides weather forecasts from your farm's approximate coordinates; no account information is sent.

Your farms, fields, readings, and diagnoses are private to your account. Other Ersha users can never see them.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete specific farms or fields at any time, or delete your entire account from the app's More tab. Deleting your account removes your sign-in immediately and permanently erases your profile, farms, fields, sensor readings, diagnosis history, and uploaded photos within 30 days — except for the anonymized disease-matched training photos described above. Full steps are on our Delete account & data page.

Security

All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure and is only accessible to your own account, enforced by server-side access rules.

Children

Ersha is built for farmers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
